Meet the Crafters

Birch and Bell is the creative coalescence of Tom and Emma who started out their design and carpentry journey in the events industry building sets and stages around the world. Since then they have gained a vast amount of experience in many different aspects of building, carpentry and design from barn conversions and renovations to tiny unusual shepherds' huts and van conversions.

Tom has most recently been working across Devon and Cornwall building houses to Passivhaus’s standards, where he has refined his astute attention to detail. Emma’s career has journeyed from event photography, to founding a clothing brand, then following a passion for woodworking and horticulture where she worked at a local market garden. This experience across fields brings a depth of creativity to Birch and Bells designs and geneal running of the business. Both Tom and Emma are third generation woodworkers, growing up around various projects of things being made and trips to the reclamation yard on a Saturday. They enjoy the tangible satisfaction of creating something from nothing, appreciating its’ now existence in this world. They have a strong connection to nature using local timber and a zeal for reimagining preloved materials, this runs through everything birch and bell create. In 2023 they finally decided to join forces and launch Birch and Bell.
